How to compress an image in-browser

  1. 1Drop or select your image. PNG, JPEG, WebP and SVG files are all accepted.
  2. 2Choose an output format. JPEG for photos, PNG for graphics, WebP for the best web compression.
  3. 3Adjust quality and max dimension. Quality 75–85 is virtually lossless for JPEG. Max dimension lets you downscale without a separate resize step.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs inside your browser using the Canvas API. Your file never leaves your device.

What formats are supported?

Input: PNG, JPEG, WebP and SVG. Output: JPEG, PNG, WebP (choose in the Format dropdown), or SVG minification when an SVG is loaded.

Why is the output larger than the original?

Re-encoding a heavily compressed JPEG at a higher quality setting, or converting to a less efficient format, can increase size. Lower the quality or switch to WebP for smaller output.

Does the quality slider affect PNG output?

No — PNG is lossless, so the quality slider is hidden when PNG is selected. To shrink a PNG, enable "Reduce colors" (which converts it to a palette of up to 256 colours — great for logos, icons and flat graphics), lower the resolution, or convert to WebP.

What does "Reduce colors" do to a PNG?

It quantises the image to a limited colour palette (2–256 colours) instead of full 24-bit colour. This is how tools like TinyPNG achieve big savings — often 50–70% smaller — with little visible difference on graphics. It runs entirely in your browser. Photos may show slight banding at low colour counts; leave it off for lossless output.

What does "Max dimension" do?

It constrains the longest edge of the image to the value you enter (in pixels), scaling proportionally before encoding. Leave it blank to keep the original dimensions.
