WCAG 2.1 requires a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text (Level AA). The enhanced Level AAA requires 7:1 for normal text. This tool calculates the contrast ratio in real time, shows pass/fail badges for all four WCAG criteria, and suggests the nearest compliant shade when a colour pair fails.
WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) defines minimum contrast ratios between text and its background to ensure readability for people with visual impairments.
Text at 18pt (24px) or larger, or 14pt (≈18.67px) bold or larger, is considered large text and requires a lower 3:1 ratio.
The ratio is (L1 + 0.05) / (L2 + 0.05), where L1 and L2 are the relative luminances of the lighter and darker colours respectively.
